Annual Auction of Rare and Unusual Roses
Joyce Raymer and Joel Ross, Auction Committee
The 2007 California Coastal Rose Society Auction of RARE and UNUSUAL ROSE PLANTS will take place on Tuesday, November 13th, in Heritage Hall located at 2650 Garfield Street, Carlsbad, California. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. We welcome all Bidders, whether or not they are affiliated with ARS Rose Societies. CCRS members are encouraged to invite friends, neighbors, relatives, co-workers to join us for this fun night.
Joel Ross and John Bagnasco have been working on this AUCTION for almost a year. The selection of plants was based on their rarity, the difficulty in collecting specimens, their exotic nature, or just on their "collector's appeal."
Many of these plants are NO LONGER, or NOT YET,
commercially available. Some represent 1 of only 10 (or fewer) identifiable specimens in existence. All these plants are intended to delight your senses and provide pride of ownership.
The Auction, which features about 100 plants, will be
divided into a SILENT portion (about 65 specimens) and a LIVE portion (about 35 specimens). The list of the plants to be auctioned is included in this Newsletter, and will be posted on the CCRS website. Occasionally, due to circumstances
beyond our control, there will be deletions of planned offerings at the time of AUCTION. However, last minute surprise additions are also a possibility.
On the night of the AUCTION, John Bagnasco, will offer a Power Point presentation for both the SILENT and LIVE AUCTIONS with pictures of each plant, along with any pertinent information, before it is auctioned. John will be working with GARDEN COMPASS' own Bryan Main, as Auctioneer.
The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. at which time bidding on roses in the SILENT AUCTION will begin. You can also examine the plants, make inquiries about them, size up the competition or just socialize with other bidders. You will be free to move about the room and keep your bids updated until 6:45 p.m. when the SILENT AUCTION will close. (A 5-minute warning will be issued at 6:40 p.m., and a 1-minute warning at 6:44 p.m.) At 6:45 p.m., the SILENT AUCTION will close and the winning Bidders should
pay for the plants they purchased.
The minimum bid increase in the SILENT and LIVE AUCTION is $1.00.
CCRS accepts only cash and checks as payment. However, CCRS members may use personal markers as well (another compelling reason to join CCRS now).
Winning Bidders who wish to depart before the LIVE AUCTION Power Point presentation, may settle their account at this time and take their plants to their cars.
Winning Bidders who wish to participate in the LIVE AUCTION, may run a tab and elect to settle their account at any time they have made their final purchase.
John Bagnasco will begin the LIVE AUCTION Power Point presentation at 7:05 p.m. Each of these roses will be auctioned by Bryan Main immediately after John finishes his description of it. The entire AUCTION, including settling of accounts, will end before 9:00 p.m.
Make sure to bring your trucks, or at the very least, empty your car of non-essentials so that you can transport your purchases home. Bringing your
pruners is also a good idea, in case you need to create the correct fit of the plant to the space allotted in your vehicle.
We hope to see you on November 13th, at this once a year opportunity to purchase rare and unusual roses.
