CCRS Meeting and Rose-a-Holics

Rose-a-holics Lecture

Dr. Joel Ross, ARS Consulting Rosarian and
Rose-a-holics Founder

The Rose-a-holics Session for March 16, 2010 will include discussion of two inter-related topics:

  1. Methods and Products available for enhancing intrinsic rose immune response;

  2. Basic Spraying required for IPM (Integrated Pest Management) including equipment options, safety concerns, spray materials (both "organic" and manufactured) and concepts underlying the selection and rational rotation of spray materials.

As always, the discussion will begin at 6:15 pm. A working knowledge of this material is rather important to all Rosarians whether or not they currently contemplate using any spray materials in their gardens.

Hope to see you there,

Joel.

'Bugs: The Good, The Bad and The Bugly'
presented by
Baldo Villegas

CCRS is delighted to welcome Baldo Villegas on Tuesday March 16, 2001 at 7:00 pm in Heritage Hall. At that time he will join us in order to present a lecture entitled "Bugs: The Good, The Bad and The Bugly."

Baldo has a masterful command of the subject material. This lecture is designed specifically for Rose Horticulturalists and is delivered in an enthusiastic, educational, and highly entertaining manner.

Baldo is a member of the American Rose Society, Sacramento Rose Society, Sierra Foothills Rose Society and several Entomological Societies. He has been an ARS Horticultural Judge and Consulting Rosarian since 1987. He has held multiple ARS Chairmanships in the Northern California-Nevada-Hawaii District. In his home garden, he has grown as many as a thousand rose plants during a single year. He also maintains a private insect collection that he uses to teach entomology to 4H Youth and the general public. Besides rose horticulture and collecting insects, his hobbies include computers and photography. This combination of interests and talents proves to be a lucky occurrence for the rest of us as he has established a SUPERB website (www.sactorose.org) for disseminating this critically important information to other Rosarians. By using it, one may definitively identify (with the aid of wonderfully detailed photographs) and learn about rose pests (insects, fungi and more) on a logically constructed and easily navigated website (www.sactorose.org/rosebug/index.htm).

CCRS is extremely fortunate to have Baldo visiting with us again. Don't hesitate to bring friends, neighbors and others who might be interested in Rose Horticulture to the meeting.
