Hayes 'Polo Queen'

Photo by Brenda Landers-Smith Queen of Show - 2004 Armstrong Rose Show, Carlsbad, CA. Won by Cal and Barb Hayes Hybrid Tea / Large-Flowered. Bred in United States (2003) by Cal Hayes. Cal says: Flowers are much different than the parent with much deeper coloration in the petals. Pink blend [ARS pb] blooms. None-to-mild fragrance. 26 to 40 petals. Average diameter 4.5". Medium, borne mostly solitary, full bloom form. Repeats its bloom again later in the season. Tall growth habit. Large, semi-glossy, dark green foliage. Height of 4' to 5' (120 to 150 cm). Used for cut flower, garden or landscape. Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that. Remove spent blooms to encourage re-bloom. Parentage: Sport of Cajun Moon Notes: Discovered by: Cal Hayes, 2003 Color: Flowers pale pink at the base of each petal blending to a very dark pink on the margins of the petals, reverse almost white with very light pink at the margins of the petals.
